    Meet the Chef - Ida MaMusu

Chef MaMusu

Award-winning Africanne food enthusiast, Chef Ida MaMusu Whall, is a native of Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa).  At the tender young age of eight (8), MaMusu created her first recipe, which consisted of flowers and plants.  Years later, she became an apprentice under the tutelage of her maternal grandmother, whom she affectionately referred to as, “mommie.”  With encouragement from her grandmother, MaMusu turned her culinary talents into a profitable business in the U.S.  She now owns her own restaurant, Africanne On Main, in Richmond, VA, where she provides fresh, healthy, all-natural meals daily.  She has also appeared numerous times on the television show, Virginia This Morning, as an expert chef.  Recently, Bon Secours, a $3.3 billion not-for-profit health system, has offered to sponsor her VA based cooking school for girls.  She was also featured in a Bon Secours commercial entitled, "Women's Heart Care at HCA." In addition; she has appeared in a plethora of news and magazine articles, such as: Gravy: Women at Work, Richmond Magazine: “A Secret Recipe,” Virginia Living: “The African Jamestown,” Richmond Free Press: “Welcome," to name a few. 

Chef MaMusu was honored at the Southern Foodways Alliance Summer Symposium (2013), and featured in their oral history project, "Women at Work in RVA." She was also selected to represent the state of Virginia on PBS's, SFA documentary, "Pride and Joy."

Chef MaMusu continues to be invited to participate in food festivals and events nationwide.  She’s currently in the process of creating a cookbook with all original, healthy recipes; nationally launching a line of all-natural fruit beverages; plus, MaMusu is promoting her newly developed weight loss program designed to assist with natural weight loss and maintenance, while on an all-natural nutritious diet.

Chef MaMusu currently resides in Richmond, VA.
